🌧️ Rumbling Hearts
An underrated anime which doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
Hey everyone! I’m Hoshi Karyuudo, a passionate romance anime watcher who has seen over 200 romance titles so far. I started this blog to connect with others who share the same love for romance anime — because, honestly, there aren’t many dedicated spaces where we can just talk about love stories in anime.
🌸 My Thoughts on Rumbling Hearts (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien) 💔
🌙 Synopsis
Rumbling Hearts (Kimi ga Nozomu Eien) starts off as a seemingly simple love story between Takayuki Narumi and Haruka Suzumiya, two kind-hearted high school students brought together through Haruka’s best friend, Mitsuki Hayase. What begins as a sweet and shy romance soon takes a heartbreaking turn when Haruka gets into a tragic accident — one that leaves her in a coma for years.
During Haruka’s long absence, Takayuki and Mitsuki slowly drift toward each other, bound by shared grief and guilt. What was once a friendship turns into a complicated relationship filled with emotional conflict and regret. When Haruka finally wakes up, Takayuki’s world shatters again — caught between his past love and the painful reality he’s built in her absence.

Here are a few points that I feel many people missed while watching. These are the reasons why Rumbling Hearts is not bad at all — it’s just too real for most to accept.
1️⃣ “Mitsuki (blue hair) forced Takayuki to be Haruka’s boyfriend”
Not exactly. She was Haruka’s true friend, and she genuinely wanted Haruka to be happy. When she realized her own feelings later, it was already too late — and that’s something that can really happen in real life. Love doesn’t always arrive at the right time. 💔
2️⃣ “Mitsuki forced herself on Takayuki while Haruka was in a coma”
This part hurts to watch, but if you think deeply — it makes sense. She saw Takayuki slowly breaking down and destroying himself in guilt. She didn’t want to lose him too. Out of desperation, she did everything she could to bring him back — and even if her way was wrong, it worked. He survived because of her.
3️⃣ “Takayuki still had feelings for Haruka after she woke up”
It mostly was guilt and not feelings. He still blamed himself for the accident. His visits weren’t purely romantic — they were born out of guilt and regret. Mitsuki misunderstood this, and that’s why she asked him to stop seeing Haruka. Later, when Haruka finally recovered, Takayuki said farewell — freeing himself from guilt. That moment at the beach wasn’t betrayal; it was closure. 🌅
4️⃣ “Mitsuki is a sc*m because she slept with Takayuki’s friend”
This is one of the most misunderstood parts of the story. Mitsuki was mentally shattered at that point. She had given up everything — her dreams, her youth, and her peace — just to stay by Takayuki’s side. But after Haruka woke up, Takayuki started visiting her again without being honest about his true intentions.
He didn’t tell Mitsuki that his visits were out of guilt, not love. So when Mitsuki asked him directly and he still didn’t tell her the truth, she broke inside. Seeing him go back to Haruka again made her feel unwanted and meaningless.
In that broken state, she did something desperate — she tried to numb the pain by being with his friend. It wasn’t about betrayal or lust; it was about trying to escape the unbearable loneliness she was drowning in. She said it herself — “it could have been anyone.” That line shows just how lost she was. 💔
5️⃣ “Takayuki betrayed Haruka at the end”
No, he didn’t. He realized that Mitsuki was the one who stood by him when his world fell apart. Without her, he might not have survived that dark time. Once Haruka recovered, his guilt finally faded — and he decided to heal the person who had saved him. It’s not betrayal — it’s acceptance, maturity, and closure.
🌹 Final Thoughts
Rumbling Hearts is not for everyone. It’s not about perfect romance — it’s about broken people trying to find meaning after losing everything. It’s one of the most realistic and mature love stories ever made. The ending may be sad, but it’s honest.
This anime shows that love isn’t always beautiful — sometimes, it’s painful, confusing, and unfair. But that’s exactly what makes it human. 🌧️
💬 The Truth Behind Its Low Rating
In the end, I think the reason this anime has such a low rating is because people completely misunderstood the message the author was trying to tell. Rumbling Hearts isn’t a story made to please everyone — it’s a story that shows how love and life don’t always go the way we want them to. Many viewers judged it too quickly without really understanding the emotions behind it.
The hate was so strong back then that the creators even released a Haruka route version after 4 years, just to show another side of the story and calm down the backlash. But for me, the original version will always remain special. It had the courage to show something real — not fantasy love, but the pain, guilt, and emotional scars that come with being human. 🌧️
